Update On The Universal Monsters Being Rebooted Within!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

It was made known quite some time ago that Universal had decided to take it's Classic monsters and give them reboots. The studio is still in the process of bringing them back to life on screen, with the idea of creating it's own universe to where characters can cross over from different films. Variety spoke with Donna Langley from Universal, along with Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, who are in charge of the Universal Monster reboot initiative, offering an update on things.

Langley says:

"The characters will interact with each other across movies. We’re incubating it at the moment, and we’re taking the time to get it right.”

Morgan adds about the monsters:

"Heroes tend to be perfect, but most people in an audience aren’t ever going to know what it’s like to be the smartest, strongest or fastest person alive... But there’s a darkness inside everybody. And everyone wants to be able to turn a curse into empowerment. The monsters have been in the shadows, and now it’s time to bring them out into the light.”

The films will have a contemporary feel to them, while still adding elements from the original films.

Morgan continues:

"This is not a heightened world. We’re exploring issues of family identity and questions of, ‘Where do I belong in the world?’ ”

THE MUMMY is expected to begin shooting next year with Kurtzman directing. The goal is to release a new Universal Monster film into theaters each year.

It will be interesting indeed to see what the Universal gang comes up with. Hopefully it all will be a success. Regardless of anything, we shall keep you updated on the situation as it unfolds.
