The Very Latest On The Next FRIDAY THE 13TH Film Within!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

The news of another FRIDAY THE 13TH movie has been going on since the release of the 2009 reboot. It seems the effort to bring Jason Voorhees back to the big screen is more of a challenge than originally thought. The release date has changed a few times, and the changes continued on recently as the film was pushed back until 2017.

Original FRIDAY THE 13TH director Sean S. Cunningham, who now serves as producer spoke with Fangoria about the upcoming FRIDAY THE 13TH film.

When asked the rumors of the movie taking place during the winter season Cunningham replied:

"They’ve been talking about that, but that’s not going to happen. I think what’s different for sure is Paramount was hung up on trying to do the found footage, which most fans, including me, just thought it wasn’t right. They weren’t saying yes to anything that didn’t work but they couldn’t find anything that would work. So finally, last February they gave up on it and decided to go in a completely different way and now they’re in the process of once again finding a better way to make it."

He continued:

"They need to break out of the core audience and add to that audience to get crossover traffic. I think the trick will be in taking Jason as he is and finding a way to involve him in slightly more complicated but purely primal stories, and that sounds kind of important but how do you do that? But I think if you can add that to what we already got then I think it really can sing."

Back in March we learned that writer/co-producer of the HANNIBAL TV series Nick Antosca had been brought on board. He was given the task of creating a fresh draft for the upcoming FRIDAY THE 13TH movie by way of Paramount and Platinum Dunes. He turned in his finished draft back in July and apparently that wasn't what the studio was looking for as Paramount then started taking fresh pitches from writers.

This isn't the first script to have been brought forth for the project as the previous draft was penned by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg.

Back in February, Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes made mention that he has hopes for expanding the mythology of Jason and wanting to bring things back to summer camp.

At this point David Bruckner is still on board to direct. FRIDAY THE 13TH is currently set for release on January 13th 2017.

We will continue to keep you updated on all things FRIDAY THE 13TH as we hear it.
