Fresh News On The SUSPIRIA Remake Within!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Dario Argento's 1977 classic Horror film SUSPIRIA is considered by many fans to be one of the very best movies ever made. Plans to create a remake were talked about for a while but never amounted to anything. There were even ideas for the film to take the possible television series route.

Then last year we learned that Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino had been selected to replace David Gordon Green as director for the SUSPIRIA remake. Guadagnino offered a few details on his concept for the story:

"An American ballet student transfers to a prestigious dance academy in Germany but later realizes that the academy is a front for something far more sinister and supernatural amidst a series of murders."

This particular story will be set in Berlin 1977 and will be focusing on that big moment in German history, while at the same time taking on elements of motherhood as well as finding your own voice.

Guadagnino's career has mostly been made up of shorts and documentaries. He has a few feature dramas to his credit including the thriller A BIGGER SPLASH, which is a remake of 1969's LA PISCINE.

While doing a recent Q&A at an Australian screening for A BIGGER SPLASH, Guadagnino let the world know a little bit more on his SUSPIRIA project saying that he has high hopes of getting composer John Adams on board, and that he is taking a Fassbinderian approach to the remake.

The filmmaker also revealed the big news that he also has two cast members that have signed on.

Dakota Johnson, who starred in 50 SHADES OF GREY, will be taking on the heroine role which Jessica Harper portrayed in the original film.

Tilda Swinton is expected to play one of the witches that run the dance academy.

Guadagnino previously stated about the SUSPIRIA remake that:

"[It will be] very different. The movie by Dario Argento was maybe a child of its own times. It's very delicate; almost childish. I have a very strong interest in German literature and film, so I think [my] Suspiria will have to focus very strongly on that moment in history, in 1977, when Germany was divided and a new generation was claiming and asking to recognize the debt of guilt that forged the new Germany after the war against the fathers who wanted to deny the responsibility."

We will continue to bring you more on the SUSPIRIA remake as it unfolds.
