It is well known that Universal has decided to take it's Classic monsters and give them reboots. The studio is in the process of bringing them back to life on the big screen, with the idea of creating it's own universe to where characters can cross over from different films.

One of the projects in particular that is now on the forefront is a reboot for THE MUMMY. This film has been through a lot of difficulties but it looks as things are moving forward well.

Paparazzi in Oxford, England was able to snap off a few images from the set of the film which show star Tom Cruise along with co-star Annabelle Wallis looking very uneasy.

We have learned that Cruise will be playing Navy Seal Tyler Colt who's mission in the Iraqi desert is to locate a group of terrorists that are hiding out in a bunker.

However their prey turn out to be mere grave robbers who have all magically died, and when they go inside the bunker Tyler and his team also succumb to some mystical forces out of their control, which is when they realize they are actually in an ancient tomb.

While his men end up turning on each other, Cruise’s character is the only one make it all the way deep within the tomb alive and find an ominous black iron sarcophagus.

After he tries to open it he is stabbed in the palm and his mind is cursed with visions of Ashurbanipal, King of Assyria, more informally known as The Mummy.

Alex Kurtzman is set to direct/produce with Sofia Boutella playing the classic monster. The film is said to be set in the present day. Jon Spaihts is in charge of the script.

Jake Johnson will portray a role that is military related and was written specifically for him.

Universal’s executive VP of production Jon Mone and VP of development Jay Polidoro will oversee the project for the studio.

The plan is for another VAN HELSING to be made after we see yet another FRANKENSTEIN flick, as well as a movie for his BRIDE, THE WOLF MAN, THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON and THE INVISIBLE MAN.

There are rumors that Scarlett Johansson is interested in THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON reboot. It has also been reported that Universal is seeking Angelina Jolie Pitt to take on the lead role in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.

With the goal being to release a new Monster film into theaters each year, Universal has the current release date for THE MUMMY set for June 9, 2017.
