Update On INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE Remake - Lestat Revealed?

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Anne Rice's book "Interview with a Vampire" was adapted into the 1994 movie of the same name, which starred Tom Cruise as Lestat de Lioncourt, who turns a down on his luck plantation owner who had lost his wife, named Louis de Pointe du Lac (Brad Pitt) into a vampire. The film grossed $105.4 million domestically and $223.6 million worldwide, from a $60 million budget. Then eight years later, "Queen of the Damned" was adapted to the big screen, and starred Aaliyah as the title character, Akasha, with Stuart Townsend playing Lestat. That movie did not do as great as it's predecessor, as it took in $30.3 million domestically and $45 million worldwide, from a $35 million budget.

We learned back in the summer of 2014 that Universal Pictures had acquired the rights to Anne Rice's entire The Vampire Chronicles novel series. A few weeks later, the studio picked filmmaker Josh Boone to write and direct an adaptation entitled THE VAMPIRE CHRONICLES, which would be based on the "Queen of the Damned' and "The Vampire Lestat" books.

Fast forward to the present day and Boone is a very busy guy. The success of his film THE FAULT IN OUR STARS has opened up many doors for the filmmaker. He is currently developing a multi-film adaptation of Stephen King's THE STAND as well as an adaptation of King's REVIVAL. Boone is also in line to write and direct the X-MEN spinoff movie titled NEW MUTANTS.

As for the INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE film, Boone recently posted an image of the cover page of the screenplay which was written by he and Jill Killington. The cover page has an April 2016 date indicating that draft was turned in to Universal recently.

Keep in mind that the script is not an exact adaptation of the novel and this time will have a blend of elements from both "Interview with a Vampire" and "The Vampire Lestat" books.

With Rice having written over a dozen Vampire novels, the chance to spawn a new franchise is very likely if all goes well.

Casting the right person in the role of Lestat will prove to be a very crucial part of the process. Boone has made it very clear as to who his pick is to take on the iconic role posting on his Twitter account a picture of Jared Leto with the caption that reads "Lestat - there can be only one. #JaredLeto."
