Plot Details Released On Universal's Upcoming THE MUMMY Reboot!

It is well known that Universal has decided to take it's Classic monsters and give them reboots. The studio is in the process of bringing them back to life on the big screen, with the idea of creating it's own universe to where characters can cross over from different films.

One of the projects in particular that has been on the forefront is a reboot for THE MUMMY. With Russell Crowe now officially on board to play Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in the Tom Cruise/Sofia Boutella starring Universal reboot we bring you the plot details for THE MUMMY that have arrived.

Synopsis:

“Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.”

Alex Kurtzman is set to direct/produce THE MUMMY with Jon Spaihts in charge of the script. Filming is currently underway.

Joining Cruise and Boutella in THE MUMMY will be Jake Johnson, Annabelle Wallis, Marwan Kenzari, and Courtney B. Vance. Russell Crowe at this point is not official.

Some of Universal's other upcoming Monster projects include THE INVISIBLE MAN in which Johnny Depp is in line to star, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN which will be written by David Koepp. April 13th, 2018 and February 15th 2019, are reserved dates for Universal Monster movies. THE WOLF MAN, VAN HELSING, and THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON have also been discussed.

With the goal being to release a new Monster film into theaters each year, Universal has the current release date for THE MUMMY set for June 9, 2017.
