New FRIDAY THE 13TH Movie To Feature A Different Origin Story?

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Plans to make another FRIDAY THE 13TH movie have been brewing since 2009's release of the reboot. Bringing Jason Voorhees back to screens across the world is much more difficult than originally planned. Fans around the world are exited for another installment.

Platinum Dunes has been developing the new FRIDAY THE 13TH film at Paramount for almost three years now. Near the end of last year it was announced that director David Bruckner was no longer attached to the project and that Paramount had decided to go in a fresh direction, with a new writer in Aaron Guzikowski coming on board to get things re-going.

The Reel Word recently spoke with FRIDAY THE 13TH producer Brad Fuller who says in regards to Guzikowski's current script:

"Aaron’s story has great characters…You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward."

When asked if this will be an origin story he replied:

"Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before."

Once again speaking on the previous found footage idea:

"There was a lot of found-footage scripts that they wanted us to make and I was not going to do that because I don’t think that can exist in Jason Voorhees’ world."

As of now there is still no director attached to the new FRIDAY THE 13TH film. Whether or not things move along quickly enough to make the January 13, 2017 release date that is currently set by Paramount is unknown, but it is very unlikely. Expect a 2017 release though as Paramount has only obtained the rights from Warner Bros. for five years which will be ending in 2018.

We will continue to keep you updated on all things FRIDAY THE 13TH.
