Update On Next FRIDAY THE 13TH Film Within!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Plans to create another installment for the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise have been taking place ever since the release of the 2009 reboot. Bringing Jason Voorhees back to the big screen is not an easy task. Some fans have grown tired of hearing about a new FRIDAY THE 13TH film as previous attempts have all fallen apart and amounted to nothing.

Platinum Dunes has been developing the new FRIDAY THE 13TH film at Paramount for almost three years now. Near the end of last year it was announced that director David Bruckner was no longer attached to the project and that Paramount had decided to go in a fresh direction, with a new writer in Aaron Guzikowski coming on board to get things re-going.

We have learned that filmmaker Breck Eisner is now in serious talks to direct the next FRIDAY THE 13TH film.

Eisner previously directed THE CRAZIES and THE LAST WITCH HUNTER.

As far as story details go, the latest on that came from Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller saying:

"Yes, Pamela and Jason are together in this film, but this is the same Jason we all know and love. He’s Jason; he kills – he kills teenagers. We went down the origin route with the second Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, and I think when you go too deep into a character’s origin, the character stops being scary at some point. I’m not worried about demystifying Jason by revealing parts of his back story, which most of the fans are familiar with."

We have also learned that filming could begin filming in January as The California state film commission recently announced a list of movies that are chosen to receive tax credits as part of California's Film & Television Tax Credit Program. FRIDAY THE 13TH is on that list and is set to be receiving a $5.6 million credit.

This program offers tax credits of up to 25% of a project's budget, but in order to be eligible for the credit, conditions have to be lived up to. One of those conditions is that filming must begin within 180 days of being selected. The announcement was made on August 2nd, so that puts FRIDAY THE 13TH needing to begin filming by January 29th.

It looks as though FRIDAY THE 13TH will not be making it's release date of January 13, 2017 that was set by Paramount. We can most likely expect a 2017 release though as Paramount has only obtained the rights from Warner Bros. for five years which will be ending in 2018.

We will continue to keep you updated on all things FRIDAY THE 13TH.
