First Look At New King Kong From KONG: SKULL ISLAND Within!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Following Legendary Pictures' and Warner Bros.’ collective success with the global reinvention of the GODZILLA franchise, the companies decided not long ago to come together to create an epic, new shared cinematic franchise. All powerful monsters become towering heroes for a new generation, revealing a mythology that brings together Godzilla and Legendary’s King Kong in an ecosystem of other giant super-species, both classic and new. Monarch, the human organization that uncovered Godzilla in the 2014 film, are expanding their mission across multiple releases.

With the upcoming KONG: SKULL ISLAND now on deck, we bring you the first look at King Kong in the new film courtesy of EW, along with the previously released international trailer that arrived not long ago.

Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts spoke to EW saying:

“With Kong, there’s been obviously so many different versions of him in the past and ours needed to feel unique to our film. I had a mandate that I wanted a kid to be able to doodle him on the back of a piece of homework and for his shapes to be simple and hopefully iconic enough that, like, a third grader could draw that shape and you would know what it is. A big part of our Kong was I wanted to make something that gave the impression that he was a lonely God, he was a morose figure, lumbering around this island.”

Adding that:

"We’re also fundamentally not playing the same game that Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla did and most monster movies do, which I’m sort of sick of the notion that a monster movie needs to wait an hour or 40 minutes until the creature shows up. Kong traditionally does not show up in these movies until very, very late, and the monster traditionally does not show up until very, very late in a monster movie, so a lot of these movies tend to have this structure that’s a bit of a slow burn. Something about this movie made me want to reject that and play a very, very different game.”

The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly, Tom Wilkinson, Thomas Mann, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham, Will Brittain, Corey Hawkins, and Jason Mitchell.

Synopsis:

"A diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific—as beautiful as it is treacherous—unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong."

The long-term plan will ultimately see King Kong take on Godzilla in a battle like never before. Many fans have been wondering how such a thing could even take place as the Godzilla from Legendary's 2014 film stood around 350 feet tall, while King Kong's height was much smaller.

Vogt-Roberts previously stated about the size of Kong:

"This is going to be the biggest Kong there's ever been. Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape."

KONG: SKULL ISLAND will arrive on March 10, 2017.
