Update On The New GHOSTBUSTERS Film!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Get ready because a new GHOSTBUSTERS film is official, and quickly moving forward over at Sony. Jason Reitman, son of GHOSTBUSTERS 1 and 2 director Ivan Reitman, will be co-writing and directing the newest entry.

We have learned that new GHOSTBUSTERS has cast Mckenna Grace who will play what looks to be the lead role, a character who is the sister of a character played by Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, 2017's IT) and the daughter of a single mother played by Carrie Coon (The Leftovers, Fargo). Jason Reitman also confirmed the news on Twitter (see below) with the caption, "Meet the family."

Written by Reitman and Gil Kenan (2015's Poltergeist, Monster House), the new Ghostbusters movie "centers on four teens, one set older, one set younger, with a focus on one family in particular," according to THR.

The new GHOSTBUSTERS movie will be taking place within the same universe as the 1984 classic:

“This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

As of this moment details are tightly under wraps. We can only hope that the original cast members will be involved, which is a great possiblitiy.

Joining Reitman with the writing duties will be Gil Kenan.

The official release date for the new GHOSTBUSTERS film is July 10th, 2020.
